Warhammer 40,000 - A New Edition (Again) & A Founding
Well it's that time once again... Our glorious Wargaming Overlords (Games Workshop) decided that 2020's COVID-19 Crisis was the perfect opportunity to cheer up wargamers everywhere by announcing and releasing the 9th edition of everyone's favourite Sci-Fi Grim Dark wargame - Warhammer 40,000 (40K to you and I).
Typically, the new edition was announced shortly after I had purchased a large number of the 8th edition rulebooks, Chapter Approved books, Codexes and Psychic Awakening books (exactly what happened when I tried to get into 7th edition haha) meaning that I unfortunately did not actually have any games of 7th and 8th editions before the new editions arrived... oh well - I'll learn one day... 😩
However, with many thousands and thousands of points of 40K models from Space Marines, Eldar, Harlequins, Imperial Knights, Chaos Space Marines, Imperial Guardsmen, Sisters of Battle, Tau, Orks, Dark Eldar etc. etc. etc. going all the way back to my wonderful metal Imperial Guard Praetorian Guardsmen purchased between 1999 and 2000 (an example of which are displayed below for any curious readers - shame they're not mine haha):

I would be mad not to use them all by getting into 40K's 9th edition...
With this resolve coupled with me now being a regular attendee at the wonderful Coity's (Near Bridgend, South Wales, UK) Castle Gamers Bridgend wargame club (http://www.castlegamers.co.uk/) and the lovely Committee's decision to push 40K just ahead of the COVID-19 Lockdown being announced, I bowed to the inevitable (after much naysaying and trying to avoid doing so) and purchased the new 40K 9th edition Indomitus 'Not a Starter Set' Starter Set (along with most wargamers across the globe). For more information in the very unlikely case you do not know what Indomitus contains, please see https://www.warhammer-community.com/2020/06/13/warhammer-40000-preview-whats-in-the-boxgw-homepage-post-1/.

I therefore now find myself owning a large cadre of Primaris Space Marines (when I was perfectly happy with the old Tactical Marines thank you very much and was actually slowly hoovering up the Horus Heresy era models from Forge World because I'm a glutton for punishment 😉) and was in need of something to do with them...
Thankfully, along came my new Co-Author, Tenebrae, (one of Castle Gamers excellent Committee Members) who jumped on another Committee Member's superb idea that the Committee should create our own Space Marine Chapter (for more information on what a Space Marine Chapter is, please see https://warhammer40k.fandom.com/wiki/Chapter) utilising a common paint scheme but with some individual flairs to both a) provide an army which could be used by new starters at Club and b) generate some across-Club focus and the potential for us to assemble a potential wargaming show 40K demonstration / participation game table for future events [Side Note, Castle Gamers are a regular attendee at South Wales' Crusade Wargame Show hosted in Penarth, Nr Cardiff - please see the Penarth & District Wargames Society's website for more information - http://www.penarthwargames.co.uk/crusade/)].

Thus was born the Coi'ti Castellans Chapter with a suggested paint scheme which thankfully closely followed the paint scheme that half of my Primaris were already painted in (courtesy of a Firestorm Games Bring and Buy Sale in Cardiff in 2019 😁). Therefore, please see below my Co-Author's latest pictures of his fantastic work on establishing this new Space Marine Chapter colour scheme thus far:

Good isn't it? 😄
Therefore, following my realisation that this blog had lain dormant for too long and conscious that having a Co-Author would likely help inspire me to both blog and paint, he has kindly / foolishly decided to join me in chronicling the birth, the background lore and the hobby progress made so far on bringing the Coi'ti Castellans to life... wish us luck and stay tuned for more updates (he says hopefully)!
For the Emperor!
